About Sarah
I've been swimming since I was 7 years old and competed on swim teams all the way through high school.
I'm CPR Certified and background-checked to work with children — I currently lead the 6-months-to-4-years group at my church's children's ministry and complete yearly training required for that role.
Our Approach
Every child starts with a first-day assessment, not a guess. From there, they follow a personalized, mastery-based skill checklist — they don't move to the next level until every skill in their current level is genuinely solid, whether that takes one class or several.
Building trust matters as much as any skill on this checklist. My top priority for every child is that they finish the summer loving the water, not fearing it — a bad experience early on creates a fear that's far harder to undo than it would have been to prevent in the first place. I always work at a child's own pace and never force a skill through tears or panic. That doesn't mean I hold back, though — when I can see a child is genuinely ready and capable, I'll encourage them past a little hesitation. Encouraging a capable, reluctant child forward is coaching. Pushing a scared child past real distress is not, and I won't do the second one.
Our levels and skill checklists are aligned with the American Red Cross's published Learn-to-Swim (ages 5+) and Preschool Aquatics (ages 3–5) curricula — the same benchmarks used industry-wide, adapted for a private lesson setting.
